“Humane Slaughter? Humane Rape? Humane Molestation? Humane Slavery? Humane Holocaust?” ~ Gary Yourofsky

Hi Folks,

I know most of you do not care for the types of things I blog about (i.e. Animal Rights/Animal Abuse). And for those of you who do *follow me* I am sure some of you probably roll your eyes (a bit) when you see a new animal rights post appear in the *Reader* from me.  I realize most of you “don’t want to know” what really goes on inside a factory farm, a so-called “organic farm”, a dairy farm or a slaughterhouse —  I get it. A long time ago, I was where you are today – I didn’t want to know either; but a few years ago, I realized, I had to know because I couldn’t call myself an “activist” and “the voice of the voiceless” if I didn’t.  I have subjected myself to some of the most painful-to-watch undercover video footage you can imagine (maybe you can’t imagine) and by doing so, I am able to educate people on why choosing a vegan lifestyle  is kindest choice a person can make.

Now, with that said, I am not asking you to become a vegan, I’d like to, but I’m not going to.  What I do ask of you, you the few who follow me is to please watch this video by Gary Yourofsky who is speaking to a group of college students.    There is no blood, no gore, no scared-straight tactics. This video is just Gary talking about why he’s a vegan and an animal rights activists.  The video is over an hour long, with a Q&A session at the end. So grab yourself a cup of coffee with vegan So-Delicious creamer, get comfortable and please, please, please watch.

I really do hope you will.

Thanks.

  1. I need to learn how to cook before I become a vegan. My family watched “Life of Pi” in December and my son asked us to become vegetarian. I gladly accepted the challenge, and boy was it a challenge!! We avoid fast food and try to eat cage-free as possible, but I understand that labels are not always true. My goal is to one day have my own chickens and hens. I really love eggs. 🙂

    • Try taking it one step at a time. I often tell people. Give up one thing at a time. Not sure what to choose. Give up dairy. The abuse of cows in the dairy industry is across all forms: Factory & so-called Organic. The human body does not need or require milk. Remove all dairy and replace with dairy substitute. Personally, I’m so over dairy that I forget what it tastes like. In fact, So-Delicious makes some of the most awesome vegan ice “cream” I have ever eaten. Thanks to me, my Ex husband is hooked on it. When I make pizza, I use Daiya Cheese or Galaxy Foods. I use So-Delicious coffee “creamer” in my coffee and I use Daiya Cheddar or Havarti Wedge when I make a sandwich.

Also, I follow some fantastic vegan bloggers like: VedgedOut and Dispatchers from the Gypsy Roller — both of these gals have awesome recipes that they create themselves. These are just 2 of the vegan bloggers I follow who’s blogs are primarily about food. If you’d like more referrals, let me know.

Lasty, I know it’s hard, but try watching the video in my post: God Milk? How about an Abuse Dairy Cow Instead. That isn’t an isolated incidence, that’s across the board.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it, espcially when our blogs are so completely different.

      Best,
      Susan 🙂

      • But our blogs are very much alike. There is no excuse for abuse of any kind. I think I could start with the dairy. I’ll check out those products and let you know how it goes. I only drink milk in my coffee and cheese on sandwiches. I’m sure if I could quit drinking soda, I can quit the milk, too. XOXO

      • You know, you’re right – abuse towards people and animals is inexcusable.

Dairy is highly addictive due to casein but you can do it, I know you can. 🙂

Just keep your chin up and keep inspiring those of us who do care. I know how you feel. Sometimes, in a group, I listen to meat-eating friends talk about their concern for the environment, and for cruelty to pet dogs and cats, and sometimes I just let it slide because — well, because maybe I need another dose of inspiration to keep it it, and sometimes I just don’t want my friends to get tired of me. But, applause to you.
